Personal Experience:

I own a 2020 BMW X1 20i Petrol, which was bought in August 2020. Currently, it has 25,000 kilometers on it, and I drive it considerably.

When buying this car, I purchased a BMW 3-year service package for around ?1 lakh. Till now, we have had three services done, with a typical service interval of every 12,000 kilometers, which comes to around every 6 months for me.

For the first two services, I did not have to pay anything as everything was included in the service package. In between, I had a tire burst which needed a new wheel and tire replacement, which was covered under the insurance. On the third service, I faced an issue with the car pulling to the left. Upon investigation, it was found that the new Pirelli tire was wearing out faster than the other tires, causing the car's balance to go off. Therefore, they installed the Pirelli in the rear and did a wheel balance and alignment again. However, since wheel balancing and alignment are not covered in the service package at least not at 18,000 kilometers, I had to pay ?9,500 for these services.

If you don't buy a service package, a normal service, which includes an oil and filter change, will cost you anywhere between ?12,000 to ?18,000. My fourth service, which is due tomorrow, will require front brake pads replacement, engine oil filter replacement, and an air filter replacement. All of these are included in the service package, including brake rotors if required.

Conclusion: It is highly recommended to buy the service package. It will give you peace of mind and protection against unexpected expenses.
