Surviving a Heavy Vehicle Incident: A Personal Account and Insights
I lost a good friend of mine last week due to the carelessness of a truck driver, whose body was crushed. It's a tragic reminder of the potential dangers of these accidents.
Another incident I experienced was getting hit by a truck while going through a red light at 25 mph. It was an incredibly painful experience that made it impossible to move for a while. The incident happened on January 12, 2021, and since then, I've been losing my memory very quickly, which is quite concerning.
Damian, a seasoned professional with over a million miles on the road in big rigs and POV's, stresses that it often isn’t the truck driver's fault. pedestrian accidents are more common. Despite this, accidents do happen due to carelessness from drivers.
Survival in a heavy vehicle incident can be influenced by various factors, such as the circumstances of the accident and divine intervention.
Prevalence of Pedestrian Accidents
Audrey, an experienced driver trainer and defensive driver instructor, often questions the “due to the carelessness of a truck driver” statement. She argues that in most cases, pedestrians are at fault for getting hit by a vehicle. The most common scenario is someone walking out in front of a vehicle, leading to serious injuries or fatalities.
A Personal Survival Story
My own incident occurred on a loading dock in 2019. While unloading a truck, we were on the back, working on the floor of the truck. The truck suddenly jerked, and all I heard was a loud pop. We fell, and we were no longer in the building, but on the ground. My coworker had partially fallen on me, and I was trying to help her back up onto the dock.
Without realizing it, the truck was still behind us. I was confused and did not comprehend what was happening. As I started climbing back onto the dock, my coworker was screaming. I was panicking internally, but it was already too late. The truck was on me, pressing me onto the dock ramp. My body immediately went into shock, and I did not feel any pain. Eventually, the truck pulled off of me, but it backed up again, and I could feel the blood rising in my body.
It was at this moment that I felt a sudden peace, and I felt that I would make it. Despite the truck being on me for an unknown amount of time, all employees in the building had gathered around me. It took them several minutes to coax the truck driver to move. Slowly, my coworkers helped me down, but I could not stand. I was laying on the ground, and my legs wouldn't move. A police officer arrived and was surprised to see me still alive. He thought it was a death-related incident.
Thankfully, I am still alive at the end of 2022. My journey to recovery has been long, but I can still walk and enjoy a decent quality of life. This experience has shown me the importance of being vigilant and prepared for unexpected situations.
Although I wasn’t run over, I was squashed, and all of my bones have healed. My body has shown remarkable resilience, and I can still live a fulfilling life.
The Role of Divine Intervention and Support
Many believe that divine intervention plays a significant role in survival. As I lay underneath the truck, my ultimate prayer was, “God, please don't let me die.” When I uttered these words, the panic left my body, and I felt a deep sense of peace. This experience taught me that having faith and a positive mindset can make a difference in these life-threatening situations.
So, while the circumstances of such accidents are often unforeseen, the outcomes can be influenced by a combination of human factors and divine support.
