Back in the early 1980s, many of my dad's employees, with assistance from my mom, pooled their resources to get him personalized license plates. He used these plates on his truck and eventually transferred them to his car. Although I didn't appreciate the fact that these plates were harder to read, I felt a sense of pride and gratitude when I inherited them. These plates symbolized the love, respect, and appreciation he was shown and how that love was passed on to me (still mounted on the wall of my office).

Even though most of them have passed away, many of their children still remember the impact he made on their lives. Whether personalized license plates are considered classy is subjective and often depends on the message and the intent behind them. If the message is humorous or reflects an admirable trait, it can be considered classy. However, if the message is self-serving or bragging, it may not be seen as classy. The perception of class is deeply rooted in authenticity and the intention behind the display.
Personal Reflections: Using Personalized Plates for a Greater Cause
As I reflect on these plates, my thoughts turn to how I could have used them for a greater cause. If I were not retired, I would have considered investing in 20 same-model white Toyota Aurion taxis and fitting them with plates numbered T3383 to T3838, and so on. I could then swap the plates daily to inconvenience parking lurks. I fantasize about how I could have used this to prove that a taxi that was supposedly attacked was actually carrying a fare at a different location.
The idea of using personalized plates for a noble cause is simply a fantasy, as the taxi companies would adjust the rules to suit their needs and send trained advocates to defend their actions in court. Nevertheless, the mere idea sparks a warm feeling inside and serves as a reminder of the power of the human spirit to dream big and make a difference.
